Vikasit Bharat
Date: 7th October 2024
Time: 12:45PM
Venue: SMMCA 1st floor Auditorium
A seminar on “Vikasit Bharat”, exploring the vision of a developed India, was successfully conducted at SMMCA on 7th October 2024. The event, organized in collaboration with Manthan Group, aimed to provide insights into India’s development and the role those young professionals, can play in this process.
The keynote speaker was Ms. Rashmi Samant, renowned national TV panellist, columnist, author, and the first female Indian President of the University of Oxford Students’ Union.
Ms. Rashmi Samant delivered an inspiring keynote address, where she shared her personal journey of becoming the first female Indian President of the Oxford University Students’ Union. She spoke passionately about the need for youth leadership, resilience, and the importance of inclusivity and diversity in shaping a better future for India. She discussed the challenges she faced and how her experience at Oxford shaped her perspective on education and leadership.
During the interactive session, students posed various questions about top global educational institutions and how Indian universities could adopt some of their practices. When asked about Howard University’s consistent ranking as a top university, she remarked that it is due to the high academic standards and the strict rules and regulations followed.
When asked what could be adopted from Oxford University for Indian institutions, she emphasized the importance of “democracy for teachers and dedication from students”, adding that these elements are key to Oxford’s success. She further pointed out that India should look toward its ancient education system, drawing from the pre-colonial period rather than continuing with the colonial legacy set by Macaulay’s system of education.
She stressed that a true transformation begins with a zeal to learn and a zeal to teach, highlighting that both teachers and students must be equally passionate. Moreover, she pointed out that excellence in academics is crucial for ensuring quality education, and this pursuit of excellence should be a fundamental driving force in shaping a better future.
Special thanks were extended to the Manthan Group for their collaboration in making this event possible.
The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ar. Sarika Joshi who expressed gratitude to Ms. Rashmi Samant for her enriching session and to Principal Dr. Pratima Dhoke and Director Dr. Avinash Deshmukh for their support in organizing the event. Thanks, were also extended to the teaching and non-teaching staff, the students for their enthusiastic participation, and the Manthan Group for their invaluable contributions to the success of the seminar.
