About the Guest Lecture:

A Guest Lecture was organized on 30th April 2024 by Dr. Rajarshi Dasgupta, an Assistant Professor at IIT Delhi in online mode. Co-ordinator Namrata Tharwani Gaurkhede organised it. Dr. Dasgupta gave an insight into the current studies being carried out in the field of water-sensitive urban design around the world, the tools used for the same such as InVEST and HecRAS, with specific case studies such as Delhi, Pichavaram (Tamil Nadu), Philippines and others. He taught the four crucial steps to mapping floods: scenario analysis and community participation, risk assessment, identification of countermeasures, and climate risk-sensitive landuse planning. Finally, the session was ended by a series of question-and-answer sessions. Participants were: M.arch Urban Design students 1^st years, SMMCA faculty members, UD Faculty, and other interested candidates. This Guest Lecture was mainly for the Students of the Master of Urban Design to expose them to disaster studies and mapping.

About the Guest Lecture :

A Guest Lecture was organised on 8^th November 2023 by Ar. Sukanya Misra who is an urban designer & works at Nikken Sekkei ltd, Tokyo, Japan in online mode. It was organised by Co-ordinators Dr. Namrata Tharwani and Ar. Tanvi Burghate. Ar. Sukanya Misra first introduced her & her growth till date in the filed. She also explained the range of projects that she has worked on in the field of urban design & public space design. Also explained what’s their core philosophy & the projects they undertake & also the various stages that are involved in the project in detail. She then explained some of her important urban level projects in detail that she has worked upon. Finally the session was ended by a series of Question & Answer session. Participants were : M.arch Urban Design students 1^st years, Smmca faculty members, UD Faculty. This Guest Lecture was mainly for the Students of Master of Urban Design to expose them to the Urban Design & urban planning practices in the field.

This Guest lecture was given by Shri. P. S. Uttarwar on “Large Scale Urban Projects” on 21^st of January 2020 at 9:30 a.m. Aim of this guest lecture was to mainly acquaint the students about the complexities & challenges involved in large scale urban projects. To make them understand how important is the the role of an Urban designer & Urban Planner in designing & planning of such projects. Looking at various urban projects like redevelopment of railway station areas of Nagpur & chandigarh, students got a brief idea about the urban design field, its scope & importance.

This Guest lecture was given by Ar. Amit Pimpale on “Participatory Design & Planning Techniques” on 16^th September of 2019 at 10:00a.m. The lecture was organised for the Students of Masters of Urban Design. To introduce them to the concept of Participatory Design approach and planning techniques in planning & designing of large scale urban projects and how a bottom up approach proves to be beneficial as compared to a top down approach in such projects. How different methods can be used in bottom up approach, their importance, inputs from all stakeholders right from the first step proves to be beneficial.

About the Guest Lecture :

This Guest lecture was given by Ar. Amit Pimpale on “ Urban Design Guidelines for Architectural Propositions” on 10^th December of 2019 at 10:00 a.m. The lecture was organised for the Students of Masters of Urban Design at the end of their First semester where they had a studio assignments to design a site for a public Library with incorporations of urban design guidelines. Since the students were ready with their architectural proposals they were not able to understand how to design urban design guidelines to a single plot level with its surrounding context. So a lecture was organised by a practising architect & urban designer of the Nagpur city i.e. Ar. Amit Pimple to make them understand the importance of urban design interventions like edge designing at a plot level, importance of form and surrounding context in designing & planning of such projects which proved to be beneficial later.
