Competition Brief :
Rest, Read & Refresh – An Auto-Rickshaw Stand Design competition as part of an Action Research Project titled, ‘Let’s Make our City Smart’ lead by Dr. Shruti Tambe and supported by Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan [RUSA]. Aim of this programme is to create awareness about people and community cantered space design and to make neighbourhoods safe through community ownership and participation.
How can “SMART” also be socially sustainable?
The brief calls for the design of an AutoRickshaw Stand as a coherent community space linking the everyday life of AutoRickshaw drivers and the neighbourhood. Apart from addressing the functional requirement of parking for Auto-Rickshaws, the program includes a comfortable and safe space for the drivers to rest. Additional amenities like provision of clean drinking water, a newspaper reading space, washrooms with changing facility, and seating spaces for people needs to be envisaged.
Like the culture in most Indian neighbourhoods, the design should encourage a dialogue between the autorickshaw drivers and the community. This will allow auto-rickshaw drivers to be more involved and rooted in the community thereby making them feel included
Announcements of Results: On 6th September 2021.
